"I've Never Hired A Professional Web Design Agency Before. Can You Tell Me A Bit About How The Process Works?"

G.O.A.L. Web Design / I've Never Hired A Professional Web Design Agency Before Last Updated: Monday, March 23, 2015

We are acutely aware of the fact that tens of thousands (yes, literally that many) of law firms out there in the United States either have a woefully amateur do-it-yourself website, or no website at all, for their practice. To be perfectly candid, we are really not sure which is worse.

As we surf the web in our office on a daily basis, we see scores of homemade websites that attorneys did themselves. Many are incomplete. Most contain glaring, egregious problems. Things like broken images. Broken links. Pages that are completely blank. Forms that don't work. Images that are too big for the space in which they have been placed. Images that were stolen from Getty or Shutterstock. And on and on.

Sure, we know the attorneys who've tried to go it themselves got in way over their heads. But we never make our clients feel bad for trying.

In the end, we truly appreciate the effort attorneys make when they try to build their own websites. But, of course, we're thankful when they come to their senses and allow a professional website design and digital media agency to take over.

We approach the start of every client interaction with kid gloves, never using jargon and always doing much more listening than talking.

We want to understand exactly what our clients' goals are when it comes to their online presence -- and then over-deliver on those expectations. So for anyone who knows they need a professionally designed website for their law firm but was too afraid to make that all-important first move by picking up the telephone and calling us, here is a step-by-step overview of how the process of building a world-class attorney website works.

The initial telephone consultation

The very first step is a conversation. We want to get a feel for what you've done to date on the web and the level of success you've achieved. We need to understand the size of your firm. Is it just you? Or do you have hundreds of partners and associates under you? Once we understand a bit more about your practice, we'll be able to come up with a few suggestions for the new look of your website.

The (brilliant) idea we'll conceive for you

After speaking with you, and answering all of your initial questions, we'll mock up a design that we think you'll love, and that will work best for the type of law in which you specialize and the objectives you hope to achieve on the web. The design will be uploaded to a private area on our webserver so that only you, and the people with whom you share that hyperlink, will be able to see it.

Becoming a client of the country's top website design agency

Once we agree on a basic layout for your new website, we'll send you a short service agreement that will contain a space for you to enter a credit card account number that we'll use to bill a deposit equal to one-half of the total price of the design phase of your new website. As soon as we receive it back, we'll begin in earnest populating the layout with your actual content.

The build-out of your stunning new website

Once all of your content is in place, or roughly so, we will ask you to do a read-through of all of the pages and send us any tweaks or modifications to, well, anything and everything. Websites are a reflection of the owner's strengths, character, and professionalism.

We therefore want you to love every aspect of your new website, and as such, we won't stop fine-tuning your new website until you are completely satisfied with the way everything looks and feels.

The final steps: completion & launch

Once you give us the okay that your new website is ready to go live, we'll bill the second and final payment to the same credit card you used for the deposit and then upload your files.

While we insist that procurement and renewal of all domain names always remain the responsibility of our clients, we are happy to answer any questions you might have about acquiring a domain name for your new website, as well as how the process works of pointing the DNS for that domain name to our webserver (if you elect to have us host and edit your new website, that is).

It's not complicated. Really, it's not

Again, the proces is quite simple and we are always thrilled to answer all of our clients' questions along the way.

If you have all of your content (headshots and biographies of your attorneys, write-ups of your practice areas, and so on) already in place, the entire process could require as little as three days. Most new projects are completed within one week's time.
